INEVITABLE take top prize and BCS Conference Hackathon

The 2019 British Cardiovascular Society Hackathon saw INEVITABLE win the top prize as part of Team NESTLE.

The BCS Hackathon, which runs alongside the BCS Conference every year, is supported by NHS England’s Innovation Team and Health Innovation Manchester. The aim is to encourage collaboration and innovation within HealthTech and to make the most of opportunities to secure transformation and improve patient outcomes.

Team NESTLE’s winning pitch was a non-medical app designed for the NHS to allow patients with planned inpatient procedures and their families to control as many aspects of their treatment as they could, including their environment and dietary requirements.

Based in both personal experience and research, empowering patients and returning control to them where it is possible to do so sees a reduction in stress levels for the patients and those closest to them. This reduction in stress makes for an easier recovery with less complications along the way.

The app allows patients to log their dietary requirements, room number, location and even when they would be in and out of the ward, making it easier for doctors and nurses doing their rounds to find patients and for family members to know when to visit.

This year’s top prize included £3000 in funding to continue to develop the idea as well as the opportunity to pitch to the BCS Conference’s delegates.
